How Microchips Work

​

Microchips are the best way to protect your pet from becoming lost. Unlike collars and tags which can fall off, microchips are inserted under the skin, so they stay with your pet forever.

 

Each microchip contains an ID number. The ID number and owner information is registered with a database. When a stray pet it brought to a vet clinic or shelter, the staff can scan the pet to detect the ID number. Then they can contact the database provider to learn who is the pet's owner.

Updating Microchip Information

If you move, change your phone number, or give your pet to another person, you will need to update the contact information with the microchip database provider.
