Welcome to HALO Animal Rescue. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, share, and safeguard your personal information and cookies when you access our website, make donations, volunteer, adopt, or otherwise interact with us.

Collected Information & How it's Used

Halorescue.org uses GoatCounter web analytics to see what pages people visit and what devices they use. GoatCounter is completely anonymized, open-source, and privacy-respecting.

Besides GoatCounter, the Halorescue.org website only collects standard temporary network logs, including your IP address. Halorescue.org does not use cookies or trackers, though our third-party services may.

When provided by you, either through our newsletter form, an online donation, an adoption, volunteer, foster, or surrender form, or any other method, HALO will store your data. This may include: email, phone number, full name, address, marital status, and anything else you provide us.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13 without parental consent. If you believe that a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us; we will take steps to delete such information as required by law.

Your information, when provided with consent, may be used for:

  • Processing donations and issuing receipts
  • Handling adoption, volunteer, or foster applications
  • Sending newsletters, fundraising appeals, event invitations, and other communications (if you opt in)
  • Ensuring security and preventing fraud or misuse

Third-Party Services

HALO uses GoatCounter, GoFundMe Pro, PetPlace, DonorPerfect, and FireDrum Email Marketing (and possibly additional services). Any additional data or cookies they collect from you are detailed in their policies, which are hyperlinked above. We share only what is operationally necessary with these service providers. When provided, your payment details are processed securely by third-parties, and HALO itself does not store full credit card numbers.

Data Security

Your personal information is stored securely in our DonorPerfect database indefinitely for operational, legal, and tax purposes, and HALO does not sell your data to any third parties.

We do our best to protect your personal data from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. These steps include:

  • Secure servers & encrypted transmission (SSL/TLS)
  • Access controls (limiting who within HALO or its contractors/partners can access personal data)

  • Regular reviews and updates to our security measures

However, no system is perfect, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your Choices & Rights

  • You may contact HALO to request a copy of what information we hold on you.
  • You may correct your information if it’s inaccurate or incomplete.
  • You may request that we delete your personal information (subject to certain legal retention requirements).
  • You may opt out of marketing communications at any time (email, SMS, postal, etc.).
  • You may change your mind and withdraw consent where consent was originally given.
  • In the event of a data breach, affected individuals will be notified where possible.
